CABLEYOYO - Bluelounge Design
Case Study: FDM Rapid Prototyping
About the Product:
Blue Lounge Design, a Pasadena, CA based design firm, is the creator of the CABLEYOYO, an ingenious device for managing the ever increasing tangle of electronic cords that blight our desktops, carrying cases, and pockets. CABLEYOYO even attracted the attention of Richard Branson, who judged it one of the top 5 innovative products of 2005 in a Yahoo! competition.
About the Development:
During the development process Blue Lounge perfected the design using Alpha Prototypes' Rapid Prototypes. Rapid Prototyping or "3D prototyping" is the process of converting a 3D CAD Model to a physical part. The increased speed and reduced cost of Rapid Prototyping enabled Blue Lounge to experiment with different designs to refine the function without the need for conventional tooling. The result was a mature product that had been tested for ergonomic and cosmetic design by end users to gain invaluable feedback.
With Conventional Tooling, costly molds or machined parts are used at each revision. These are time and labor intensive and limit the number of revisions possible before a product can be released into the market place. CABLEYOYO Rapid Prototyping Models were produced in about 24 hours, shaving weeks off development and testing schedules.
More companies every day are utilizing Rapid Prototyping to compete in today's marketplace. Rapid Prototypes, 3D CAD Models, and CAD Prototypes are the tools that can help companies like Blue Lounge bring their products to market faster and more economically.
Rapid Prototype quotes are available online 24 x 7.
