The Prototyping Process uses CAD Drawings and creates cross sections then creates a physical path and outputs plastic or resin. The build platform is then lowered and the next layer of the prototype is created until the prototyping process is complete.
Rapid Prototyping generally uses additive fabrication, in which material is added until the 3D model is complete. Additive manufacturing is extremely versatile because of its ability to create almost any geometry even parts that could not be commercially created with processes such as injection molding.
The standard interface between CAD software and rapid prototyping machines is the STL file format.
3D CAD Models typically take 3 to 72 hours, depending on machine type and model size. Rapid Prototypes can often be shipped within 24 hours taking days or weeks off manufacturing time lines.
